A federated discovery layer

SETImap indexes authoritative metadata and queries source archives first. It retrieves or caches data only where technically appropriate and legally permitted. 'All available data' means a continuously expanding adapter program — not a claim that every dataset has already been copied.

By default, SETImap queries authoritative archives directly rather than copying data. This preserves provenance and respects data rights.

Permitted caching

Data is cached locally only where technically necessary for performance or reproducibility, and only where licensing permits.

Rights & attribution

Every adapter records license, citation requirement, embargo status, and rate limits. Attribution is preserved through every transformation.
