MULTIMESSENGER ATLAS

Map the known. Investigate the unexplained.

SETImap is building a multiscale, multimessenger atlas of the universe. We connect observations from ground- and space-based instruments across light, gravity, neutrinos, particles, and time — then use transparent, reproducible methods to identify and investigate anomalies, including possible technosignatures.

THE PIPELINE

From observation to evidence record

1

Federate

Connect authoritative archives and registered contributions across all modalities.

2

Normalize

Align coordinates, time systems, units, calibration, resolution, and metadata.

3

Compare

Overlay signals across instruments, messengers, scales, and epochs.

4

Detect

Identify unusual structure using conventional and experimental methods.

5

Review

Test interference, artifacts, natural explanations, and reproducibility.

6

Map

Publish versioned evidence records and the questions that remain open.

CANDIDATE ATLAS

Example evidence records

These records illustrate the atlas format. They are demonstrations only — not confirmed discoveries.

DEMONSTRATION ONLY
SMC-2024-0017Illustrative example

Narrowband 1420 MHz Drift

RA 19h 22m 22s / Dec +26° 57′

Illustrative record only — not a real detection. Depicts a narrowband signal near the hydrogen line with Doppler drift inconsistent with known satellite passes. Shown to demonstrate atlas record structure.

SMC-2024-0031Illustrative example

Anomalous FRB Repetition Pattern

RA 01h 58m 00s / Dec +65° 43′

Illustrative record only — not a real detection. Depicts a fast radio burst source with sub-second periodicity. Shown to demonstrate how the atlas would represent a multi-epoch anomaly.

SMC-2024-0044Illustrative example

Unusual Stellar Flux Dip — KIC 8462852

RA 20h 06m 15s / Dec +44° 27′

Illustrative record only — not a real detection. KIC 8462852 (Boyajian's Star) is a real object with published literature; this card depicts how the atlas would represent an unresolved optical anomaly.

SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINE

An anomaly is a question, not an answer.

SETImap distinguishes observations from interpretations, and candidates from confirmed findings. Every mapped record shows where the data came from, how it was processed, why it is interesting, what might explain it, and what evidence would change its status.

We never equate "unexplained" with "extraterrestrial." Missing coverage is not negative evidence. Correlation is not causation. Model confidence is not physical probability.

Provenance first

Every record traces back to its authoritative source, instrument, and processing version.

Uncertainty visible

Confidence scores, localization regions, and limitations are displayed alongside every finding.

Falsifiable by design

Contrary evidence, interference tests, and natural-source checks are required fields, not optional.

Reproducible methods

Analysis pipelines are versioned, frozen, and open for independent replication.

HOW THE FEDERATION WORKS

Queries, not copies

SETImap is designed as a federated discovery layer. It does not consolidate or warehouse the underlying source archives.

When a pipeline runs, it queries authoritative sources at their origin and creates four lightweight record types: source blocks (archive provenance and rights), observation blocks (instrument, epoch, coordinates), transformation blocks (calibration, processing, pipeline version), and evidence blocks (signal properties, interference tests, natural-source checks). Ordered links among those blocks form provenance chains and evidence chains. This is a linked-record architecture — not a blockchain, and not a copy of source data.

Coverage statement: absence of a record in SETImap cannot be treated as a non-detection. Sky coverage varies by instrument, epoch, and modality. Missing coverage is not negative evidence.

Source block

Archive provenance, rights, license, embargo, citation requirement

Observation block

Instrument, epoch, coordinates, localization, raw data reference

Transformation block

Calibration version, processing pipeline version, transformation history

Evidence block

Signal properties, interference tests, natural-source checks, confidence

Ordered links among blocks form provenance and evidence chains.
